Don your cape for Voices for CASA Children’s 4th Annual Superhero 5K/1K Fun Run/Kids Dash.  Your SUPER-AMAZING participation will benefit 12,000 local abused or neglected children in foster care.

Fly across the finish line and experience all of our SUPER-FUN activities.  Keep an eye out for villains.  Strut your stuff at our Superhero Costume Contest for all ages.  And don’t miss our Mighty Mini Heroes Zone with games, team mascots, emergency responders, superhero bouncers, “bad guys” and more.

Race Day Check-In/Registration

Sunday, April 9

Race day check-in and registration will begin at 7:00 a.m. on the North Soccer Field just south of E. Baseline Rd.  If you want to register the day of the race, please allow plenty of time to ensure you are at the start line on time (the 1K Fun Run begins at 8:30 a.m. and the 5K Race begins at approximately 8:40 a.m.)

Costume Contest

_mg_3234Start working on your SUPER-AMAZING costume now!  Winners of our 2017 Superhero Costume will be announced at 9:45 a.m. following the 50/50 Raffle.  Prizes will be awarded for the following categories:

  • Best Traditional Superhero*

  • Best Superhero Team or Family

 

*Known character like Superman or Wonder Woman

 FAQs

Who am I helping at Voices for CASA Children’s 4th Annual Superhero Race?

You are helping 12,000 abused or neglected children in Arizona state dependency in Maricopa County.  Voices for CASA Children is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization which helps support CASA of Maricopa County.  CASA speaks up for children by empowering our community to volunteer as advocates for them in the court system.  When the state steps in to protect a child’s safety, a judge appoints a trained Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA volunteer) to make independent and informed recommendations in the child’s best interest.

What difference does CASA make for children recovering from abuse or neglect?

_mg_3035If a child is fortunate enough to have a Court Appointed Special Advocate assigned to him/her, the CASA volunteer often is the only person who truly knows the child and how the child is really doing.

National CASA reports that a child with an advocate is more likely to receive therapy, healthcare and education, more likely to do better in school, less likely to be moved from one place to another, less likely to languish in long-term foster care, and significantly more likely to reach a safe, permanent and loving home.

A CASA volunteer is often the child’s only link to maintaining family connections and can be instrumental in identifying family members as temporary or permanent placement options.

Most importantly, children themselves report that they know and can rely on their Court Appointed Special Advocate.

How can I learn more about becoming a CASA volunteer on race day?

Stop by the Voices for CASA Children and CASA of Maricopa County tables to meet our representatives.  We’d love to tell you more about how you can become a Voice for abused and neglected children.

Can I walk in the 5K?

Runners, joggers and walkers are all welcome in our family-friendly 5K.  If you don’t plan to run, please move further back at the start line to allow runners to get a quick start.

What are the course routes?

Please refer to our 5K course map above for route details, including the locations of water stations.

The 1K Fun Run course will loop around the scenic lake.

The 25-yard,  100-yard and 200-yard Kids Dashes will be held near the 1K Fun Run and 5K start/finish lines.

Where can I pick up my runner’s bib?

You pick up your bib on Saturday, April 8, at Sole Sports, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., or as early as 7:00 a.m. on Race Day.

If you want to register the day of the race, please allow plenty of time to ensure you are at the start line on time (The 1K Fun Run begins at 8:30 a.m. and the 5K Race begins at approximately 8:40 a.m.)

May I bring a baby jogger on the 5K course?

Baby joggers, as well as strollers, are welcome, although we ask you to start towards the back of the group to be considerate to other runners.

Who can participate in the 1K Fun Run

Anyone of any age can participate.  If you choose to walk the 1K, please start towards the back of the group to allow runners to go first.

What are the age ranges for the Mighty Mini Heroes Kids Dash?senior-couple-checking-in-at-shr-2014

We will have 3 separate Kids Dashes.  The first event, the 25-yard dash, is intended for Mighty Mini Heroes who are ages 1 – 3.  The 100-yard dash is intended for those who are ages 4 – 7, and the 200-yard dash is for kids ages 8 – 12.

What will happen if it rains?

The race will take place rain or shine.

Where can I get water the day of the race?

We will have two water stations along the route plus bottled water for runners after the race.

Where can I get First Aid if needed?

We will have an EMS on hand from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.  at the registration tent.

How far is 5 kilometers?

5 kilometers is equal to 3.1 miles.

Will there be mile splits?

There will be markers at each mile.

What do I get for my entry fee?

All participants will receive access to the event day festivities.  Each 5K participant will receive a bib with a chip in it for timing purposes.  1K Fun Run participants will receive bibs with their race numbers on them.  The first 150 kids under 12 years of age in the 5K race or 1K Fun Run will receive a Mighty Mini Hero “Goodie Bag.”

Where are the restrooms located on event day?

You may use the portable toilets located just south of the registration area or the permanent restrooms at the north end of the lake, near the paddleboats.

Where will race results be posted?

Race results will be posted on a flat screen under a tent near the finish line.

How do I enter the Superhero Costume Contest?

Judging for the contest will be conducted at 9:45 a.m. by our VOICES panel of Superhero experts who will be on the lookout for the most SUPER-AMAZING costumes they’ve ever seen.  Winners will be announced at 9:55 a.m., following the 50/50 Raffle.

Will there be photos of the event?

We will have photographers roaming the event.  Fun props will be available for your use for “selfies” at the photo booth.

Lost and Found items will go the registration table.
